The three best used literary techniques used in this book were plot, theme, and point of view. Plot was excellently used in this book because of how the book told the story of how the war started and then how the first month of the war went. The plot was exceptionally used as exemplified by how the book went in chronological order and told the entire history behind the war. The theme of the book was exemplified by the descriptions of how the war was affecting families and how the war in its first month claimed tons of lives. Point of view was effectively used in this book because it allowed the reader to see the war in a different more personal view by allowing the reader to experience the war from the life a civilian to the life of a soldier surrounded by death.
